Making Time was co-founded by artist Tim A Shaw and curator Niamh White, who also run a charity called Hospital Rooms. Hospital Rooms commissions museum quality artists to transform secure and locked mental health units. One of their recent projects took place at the Garnet Ward, a unit for older people with dementia and other challenges, at Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust.
Artists including British sculptor Richard Wentworth, Royal Opera House scenic painter Michael O’Reilly and Indian installation artist Sutapa Biswas took part in the project and created numerous inventive and compliant artworks for the space. In addition, they lead a series of art workshops with patients.
In January 2018, Leader of the Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn came to see the project and understand how this arts and health collaboration has made a significant contribution to health, wellbeing and quality of life of older residents at the Garnet Ward.
